# How does NFC tracking work?

You'll need an NFC tag — a small, inexpensive sticker widely available online.

Scan it once to configure what should happen when it's recognized, e.g. starting a [project's]({{< relref "projects.md" >}}) tracking as part of your [automation]({{< relref "automation.md" >}}). Scan the same tag again to set up a second action for the next time it's recognized, typically stopping that same tracking.

A common setup: stick a tag on your desk, scan it when you start work to begin tracking, and scan it again when you leave to stop.
